ddLooper: instant replay and video analysis for archery training

ddLooper is archery video replay for training. It shows your last shot again right after you shoot, in a loop and in slow motion, so you and your coach can analyse your release, stance and form. You do not need to touch your phone. You do not need to rewind a video.

Why would you want it?

  • It saves your time. You see every shot at once, without filming or rewinding.
  • It saves your money. No special camera system: the computer, laptop, tablet or phone you already have is enough.
  • It makes training more effective. Every shot becomes a lesson you can see.
  • It improves your results. Small faults are caught early and fine details can be polished.
  • It pleases you and your coach. You progress faster, and the coach has clear pictures to work with.

Who is it for?

Archers of any level, from beginners to experienced athletes, and coaches who want to show what just happened. It works the same for everyone.

What you will see

  • the movement of the bow hand at release
  • release mistakes
  • anchor consistency from shot to shot
  • a continuous draw through the clicker
  • your stance and body alignment
  • your follow-through after the release
  • bow arm drop: your bow arm falling at the moment of release
  • plucking the string: pulling the string away from your face as you let go
  • and many other small things that decide where the arrow goes

How it works

Put a phone, tablet or computer with a camera near the shooting line and press START LOOPER. The camera runs all the time and the app keeps the last few seconds in memory.

When you shoot, the app gets a shot signal. It then cuts a short clip from just before to just after the signal and plays it in a loop. You watch your shot, then press NEXT and shoot again.

The shot signal can come from:

  • the microphone: the app listens for the sharp sound of the shot. For stable operation, an external microphone (preferably wireless) or a piezo sensor on the bow handle is recommended,
  • a Bluetooth sensor (coming soon, in development): a compatible sensor sends a signal (Chrome or Edge on Android and computers only),
  • a second phone: open the app on another phone, choose MOTION SENDER and fix it to your bow. Its motion sensor sends the signal over the internet. When the sensor phone connects, the looper offers to switch from the microphone to the phone by itself. The sensor phone needs a built-in motion sensor and a current system and browser (Chrome or Edge on Android, Safari on iPhone). Most newer phones have these, but some older models may not work. If the phone or its system does not support keeping the screen awake and the screen goes to sleep while you train, switch off the automatic screen lock (screen timeout) in the phone settings yourself, or the program will not work correctly.

Main features

  • Instant replay loop, clip length 0.5 to 5 seconds
  • You choose how much of the clip comes before and after the shot
  • Slow motion (SLOMO) with adjustable speed
  • Step frame by frame, or drag to scrub
  • Zoom with two fingers or the mouse wheel, always ready; every start begins at 1:1
  • Grid over the picture, with size, intensity and colour
  • AUTO MODE: the next shot replaces the clip by itself
  • SAVE the clip as an MP4 video, with your zoom and grid, into a folder of your choice (on a computer), sorted by athlete and day. At START the app asks who is training, or keeps the name if you want
  • 30 or 60 fps filming, front or back camera, landscape or portrait

Video and sound stay on your device. With the phone trigger, only a short trigger message is sent.

What you need

  • A phone, tablet or computer with a camera
  • A modern browser: Chrome or Edge, or Safari on iOS/iPadOS 16.4 or newer
  • Internet for signing in, and on both phones for the phone trigger
  • For the Bluetooth sensor (coming soon): Chrome or Edge on Android or a computer (not iPhone or iPad)

Try it

See how it works. Open the preview without an account. Press START LOOPER, allow the camera, then press TEST. TEST acts like a shot signal and shows the replay. Only the TEST button works as a trigger in the preview. No extra features are switched on, and the look and the settings may differ from the current version.

Start free trial. Sign up with your email. We send you a confirmation link. Your trial starts after you open that link. The trial lasts 14 days and includes up to 500 captured replay clips (each time the looper catches a shot and shows the instant replay), whichever comes first. Everything in the app works in the trial (microphone and phone trigger, camera choice, 60 fps, clip length, AUTO MODE, zoom, grid and slow motion) except two things: saving clips and the Bluetooth sensor (coming soon). These are part of the subscription.

Always up to date

Subscribers always get the newest version automatically, with all its improvements. You can also add new features and options that are not shown in “See how it works” or in the free trial.
